Andy Murray will never win me over. After years of thinking he was heinously overrated, he’s managed to improved his game so much that he’s now a worthy adversary of the top two, who can play some truly breathtaking tennis. But when that tennis is against Roger Federer, it’s lost on me. He might as well be winning every point with the help of the net cord. Please stop it and go away.
I regularly get asked why I hate Andy Murray. The thing is, I don’t actually hate Andy Murray. Well, maybe I do a little, but the reasons why I “hate” him has nothing to do with tennis and why I never wanted to see him win a major, which in turn is what makes people think that I hate him. See, tennis is one of my favourite sports. It’s one of my favourite sports but by far my favourite individual sport and as with individual sports, when it’s a the attributes of a single person that attracts your support, it’s easier to like the ones you shouldn’t and not like the ones you should. Andy Murray may be our Number 1, but he’s not my Number 1.
Watching the final of the US, tucked up in bed is one of my favourite traditions. Even though it doesn’t feel quite the same this year with a Monday final and its earlier start, it’s nice knowing I won’t have to battle nodding off during the decisive parts of the match this time.
Come on Roge!!
Number 7. Before today I said I’d like him to win one more and then slowly head towards retirement. Screw that. Who’d want to live without a hero.
COME ON ROGE!!
